Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment does an off-grid solar system require?
An off-grid solar system requires several components to function properly, including solar panels, a solar charge controller, inverter(s), a battery for energy storage, a mounting and racking system, as well as wiring, cables, and fuses to connect everything securely.
Why are my solar panels underproducing power?
Solar panels may underperform due to various factors, with environmental conditions being the most common. Indirect sunlight, high temperatures, cloudy skies, and the accumulation of dirt or stains on the surface glass can all reduce their efficiency and overall performance. Regular cleaning and proper positioning can help mitigate these issues.
How should I connect solar panels in my electrical circuit - series or parallel?
Solar panels can be connected in series or parallel configurations to meet the specific size and power requirements of your electrical circuit. In a series connection, the operating voltage of each panel adds up, while the system current remains the same as that of a single panel. In a parallel connection, the operating current of each panel adds up, while the system voltage remains the same as that of a single panel. For optimal power output and to meet the system's requirements, a combination of both series and parallel connections can be used depending on your setup. In series: the operating voltage output adds up, while the system current output is the same as that of one panel. In parallel: the operating current output will add up, while the system voltage output will be the same as the output of one solar panel. To achieve optimum power output and system rating for your power system, you can use both parallel and series connections.
How many solar panels do I need?
To determine how many solar panels you need, start by calculating the power load required for your system. Power is measured in watts, while capacity is typically measured in watt-hours, which is calculated by multiplying the power output in watts by the number of hours of operation, then adding a safety factor of 1.5 to 2. It’s recommended to size your battery bank first based on the minimum required capacity, and then decide on the necessary input power and the number of panels accordingly.
Will this panel produce power in overcast conditions?
Yes, it will! This Renogy solar panel, built with high-quality materials, continues to generate power even during cloudy weather. However, please note that power conversion will be lower compared to sunny days.
Do solar panels require maintenance? Can I wash my solar panels?
Solar panels generally require regular maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Dirt and stains that accumulate on the surface or in the corners can reduce sunlight absorption, leading to lower efficiency. To clean your solar panels, simply use a microfiber cloth, glass cleaner, and water to remove any debris and keep them functioning at their best.

    Pretty Great So Far

Posted by Seth B on May 20th 2024

I just installed 4 of these on my Sprinter Van Conversion. The installation was straightforward, my only issue being that the cords under the panels were not long enough to reach the other side of the panel lengthwise, so I ended up having to buy some extensions. I would think that the cords should be long enough to at least string the panels together, regardless of orientation. Since Installation they have been working flawlessly and have made life on the road a whole lot easier! Gone are the days of having to find a place to plug in!!

    BAD PACKAGING

Posted by Solar novice on Jan 31st 2024

The panels look well made. Haven't used them yet though to comment on function. The packaging was in pretty bad shape even though they appear to have arrived in good condition. The outside of the box was not taped closed at all. Just 4 cardboard tabs and one was torn off. The styrofoam corner protection at 3 corners of the box was reduced to shreds and was found scattered on the bottom of the box. Panels just floating and banging around inside the box. I've read this in other reviews before I placed my order and it turns out to be true. Maybe it doesn't matter.

    Good price and good quality

Posted by mnn on Nov 15th 2023

I went with Renogy solar panels because as I researched solar panels their name was always there.I read sooooo many reviews and was satisfied that they would be the way to go. I am totally satisfied that I made a good decision. Easy installation!!!!!Light weight and smaller in size which helped me a lot because I installed them on my roof top tent where space is a premium. I only bought panels because my power station has its own charge controller built in. Worked like a champ straight out of the box. Thank you Renogy for a quality product.
